Finishes
Types of finishes used for artwork.
Tung Oil
Tung oil is a penetrating, natural-looking finish that has a soft sheen. It comes from the nuts of Tung trees and dries to a durable, water-resistant finish that is safe for all food uses, including salad bowls, cutting boards, utensils, and serving dishes.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane is a type of varnish that contains plastic resins. It is a surface finish that builds a protective layer. Our polyurethane finishes are glossy, shiny and have an amber tone. It is food safe to use on items such as fruit bowls that do not require the use of sharp utensils that could damage the finish.
Lacquer
We use catalyzed lacquer that cures into a durable protective layer. Catalyzed lacquer is widely used in the industry for cabinets and furniture. We typically use a gloss finish and rub it out to achieve a beautiful shine. The lacquer also has a slight amber color. It is food safe to use on items such as fruit bowls that do not require the use of sharp utensils that could damage the finish.
Hard Wax/Oil
A hard wax/oil finish produces a natural finish with good water resistance. It has a soft sheen and can be used for food items.
Water Based Finishes
We use water based finishes for a built surface layer that minimizes color change of the wood. These are durable and food safe for items such as fruit bowls that do not require the use of sharp utensils that could damage the finish.
